Resveratrol – A Powerful Antioxidant

Resveratrol

Both Oprah Winfrey(The Oprah Winfrey Show) and Barbara Walters(60 Minutes) have featured this seemingly magic molecule on their shows. So what’s the fuzz all about?

This antioxidant was first found in 1940 in the roots of a plant called Veratrum grandiflorum. Years later, in 1976, resveratrol was discovered in grapes, and in 1992, resveratrol was also detected in wine. Concentration of resveratrol is much higher in red wine compared to white wine. The explanation for this is that in order to make red wine the skin of the grapes isn’t removed.

Scientific studies have found resveratrol to be something of a magic remedy, enabling the body to fight viruses, infection, inflammation, the effects of aging and other health risks such as cancer. In animal studies resveratrol has shown to be beneficial for health including healthier glucose, triglyceride, blood pressure and cholesterol levels.wine-and-resveratrol3

A recently published study found that overweight mice treated with resveratrol enjoyed healthier livers, decreased incidence of diabetes and significantly improved motor function in contrast with overweight mice that did not receive resveratrol. However, you would need to drink many bottles of red wine a day to get the health benefits those scientists found.

Resveratrol Supplement

Luckily, resveratrol extract is now available as a supplement. Dr. Ron’s Life Caps Anti-Aging Formula, with 100 mg each of Resveratrol, cost around $60 for 60 capsules. A dolar a day for better health sure is a good deal but it get’s even better with the free trial of Resveratrol Ultra.

Note that, although the possible health benefits of Resveratrol are exciting you should always check with your doctor before you take this or any other supplement.

TIP: Take Resveratrol with pure water. Check out my review of the Aquasana water filter
